Melissa Pasanen has written for Vermont Life for a decade, serving as food editor since 2009 while still covering a range of topics for the magazine. The award-winning journalist also contributes regularly to the Burlington Free Press and The Art of Eating, and writes for a range of national publications including Parade, EatingWell and Saveur. She co-authored the New York Times notable cookbook, “Cooking with Shelburne Farms: Food and Stories from Vermont” (Viking, 2007). Melissa has lived all over the world, but has spent more years in Vermont than anywhere else. She and her husband have raised their two sons in South Burlington over the last 16 years. On any given day in Vermont, you might find her ferrying her sporty kids all over the region, making the most of local ingredients in her kitchen, dancing at the FlynnArts studio, following her nose to new eating destinations and farms, or enjoying a quiet hike or snowshoe through the woods.

Meet the Staff: Managing Editor Judy Thurlow

Written by Vermont Life on . Posted in Way of (Vermont) Life

Judy Thurlow is the managing editor of Vermont Life Media, which means she maintains the production schedules for our calendars, dealer catalog, gift guide and ancillary materials. She also copy edits and proofs all these things as well as the magazine and monthly e-newsletter. She’s been with Vermont Life for nearly eight years.

Judy has a B.A. in English from the University of Vermont and has worked in magazine, journal and book publishing.

“What I love about Vermont is Vermont,” says Judy, “friends, family, back roads, mountains, rolling farmland and pastures, big old maple trees, maple syrup (especially maple syrup and maple candy and maple creemees and just about anything else you can do with maple).” What she loves about about Vermont Life is getting to see the state through different eyes.
