Meet the Staff: Art Director Susan McClellan

Written by Vermont Life on . Posted in Way of (Vermont) Life

Susan McClellan has been art director of Vermont Life for almost two years. A freelancer, she works from her Peacham farmhouse, where she lives with husband Richard Brown, a photographer whose work has frequented the pages of Vermont Life for more than 35 years. Susan grew up in Vermont and has worked as a book and magazine designer for 27 years.

Susan was instrumental in the redesign of Vermont Life in spring 2010. She designed the new logo and developed the contemporary style that the magazine carries today.

If not sitting at her giant iMac, Susan is usually hiking the hills of the Northeast Kingdom with her dog Bernie, or traveling to San Francisco to visit her daughter Willa.

Meet the Staff: Managing Editor Bill Anderson

Written by Vermont Life on . Posted in Way of (Vermont) Life

As Managing Editor, Bill Anderson mostly works on bringing good journalism to the magazine, especially with story ideas and strong writing and reporting. He plans, assigns and edits stories, sometimes working more than a year ahead of print time for seasonally themed pieces.

Born in Canada, Bill has a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Journalism from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto, Ontario. He has worked for a range of media including a wire service, a major metro, midsize daily newspapers and a weekly magazine. Prior to Vermont Life, where he has been since 2007, he worked for six years as the editor of the Weekend section at the Burlington Free Press.

Over the years, he has specialized in arts and entertainment coverage and criticism, but has also dealt with hard news, business, sports and other aspects of daily news.

“As a place to live,” Bill says, “Vermont offers everything I could hope for, and it is a privilege to convey its unique culture and appeal through the pages of Vermont Life.”

In wintertime, he is a part-time ski instructor at Smugglers’ Notch Resort near Jeffersonville.
